The Super Eagles look to win the continental tournament for the first time since 2013.

Jose Peseiro believes Nigeria have enough quality and motivation to win the Africa Cup of Nations in January.

Nigeria’s disappointing run in the 2022 AFCON ended with their 1-0 defeat against Tunisia in the round of 16. Since then, the Super Eagles have significantly improved their form under Peseiro, who replaced Augustine Eguavoen after the tournament.

“The main goal is to win the AFCON,” Peseiro told Sky Sports

“We will need to be at our maximum because we know that there is good opposition. There is Senegal, Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt, Ghana and Ivory Coast. But we believe we can do it. I believe. And the players believe.”

Nigeria will compete against Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau in Group A of the tournament. Unlike the last edition of the AFCON, Nigeria is blessed with a host of attacking options.

Taiwo Awoniyi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Samuel Chukwueze, Ademola Lookman, and Victor Boniface are some of the in-form attackers at Peseiro’s disposal. But the manager already knows his side’s main superstar.

“When Osimhen goes to Nigeria, everybody wants to touch him or speak with him or wants a picture with him,” Peseiro added.

“He is a strong guy, a smart guy and an amazing player, defensively and offensively. He can do everything.”
