The Super Eagles might have to play in the World Cup qualifying tie without one of their best players.

Only a month after Senegal won the 2022 Africa Cup of Nation, football fever once again grips the continent. African nations that have made it to the final round of the World Cup qualifiers will now meet their opponents in two-legged ties.

Nigeria will face Ghana in, arguably, the most anticipated game of the coming round. The Super Eagles will travel to Ghana for the first game next Friday before hosting the Black Stars for the second leg four days later.

Based on their AFCON performances, Nigeria are the favourites to win the tie. However, a new injury blow might increase Ghana’s chances of a surprise win.

Wilfred Ndidi suffered a leg injury during Leicester City’s 2-1 defeat against Rennes in the Europa League on Thursday. The Foxes eventually qualified for the quarter-finals with a 3-2 win on aggregate, but Ndidi’s injury has left Leicester and Nigeria fans concerned.

Following a clash of legs with Rennes striker Gaetan Laborde, Ndidi limped off the pitch just before the hour-mark. Leicester are yet to issue an update on the Super Eagle’s injury.
