The three-time AFCON winners have announced Victor Boniface’s replacement after the striker withdrew from the squad.

Terem Moffi has replaced the injured Victor Boniface in the Nigeria squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.

On Tuesday, Nigeria confirmed that Boniface is no longer in the team because of an injury. As per various reports, the striker suffered a problem with his groin during training. He is expected to be out for up to six weeks.

Now, Moffi will link up with the AFCON squad, pending the approval of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and his club, OGC Nice.

The 24-year-old has been capped 14 times at senior level in international football, scoring four goals. His last appearance for Nigeria was in the 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe on November 19. He played up front for 77 minutes during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

At club level, Moffi has scored six goals in 16 Ligue 1 games for Nice following his €22.5 million summer move from Lorient.

Nigeria will hope Moffi can help fill the void in what has been a difficult start to their AFCON preparations.

The Super Eagles have lost Wilfred Ndidi to injury and face an anxious wait on Kelechi Iheanacho. The striker has a niggling injury problem, but is at the team’s training camp. He is expected to play in AFCON, although his current fitness levels remain unclear.

Nigeria will begin their AFCON campaign on Sunday against Equatorial Guinea in a Group A match.
