The Super Eagles forward has stayed out of action after sustaining an injury last week.
Nigeria’s assistant manager Finidi George has not ruled out Victor Osimhen’s return for Nigeria’s upcoming friendly match against Algeria.
The Napoli striker limped off the pitch during Napoli’s 4-1 thrashing of Liverpool last week.
Osimhen has stayed out of action for Napoli since then. Napoli have announced the Nigerian star won’t return to the pitch until the next month.
However, George hopes the Super Eagles will have their star striker back in time for their September friendlies.
“They said Osimhen’s injury is not that serious, but maybe he won’t be able to make the friendly game against Algeria,” Finidi told the Punch.
“We’ll see if the injured players can make it or not, especially Osimhen.”
Nigeria will have to prepare for World Cup without having Jamilu Collins, Umar Sadiq, Akinkumi Amoo, and Semi Ajayi in their squad.
Sadiq has suffered an ACL injury, which will most likely keep him out of action until next summer.
“For Sadiq, I think that is a critical one; those injuries take a longer time. I really feel for him, it’s very unfortunate, but he will be back; he’s in Europe, and a lot of players have come out of it.”
