Nigeria came into the match on the back of a crucial 1-0 win over Egypt in their opening AFCON game. Augustine Eguavoen’s men started the game by completely outpacing their opponents. They scored the opener through Villarreal’s Samuel Chukwueze only three minutes into the game.
Following the opening goal, Nigeria continued their attacks throughout the first half. The Super Eagles eventually got what they deserved in the last minute before the interval.
Following a free-kick, the Sudan defenders made a half-clearance. After a few mishits and deflections, the ball hit Taiwo Awoniyi’s head before getting into the back of the net.
Just like the first half, Nigeria started the second period on fire. The Super Eagles doubled their lead through Moses Simon’s precise strike in the 46th minute. However, this time, Sudan started to slowly gain possession inside the Super Eagles half.
Following a few missed chances, Khedr Daiyeen got one back for Sudan from a spot-kick ten minutes past the hour-mark. Nigeria had a few more chances to increase their lead in the final ten minutes, but they eventually settled for a 3-1 win.
