The Super Eagles reached the AFCON semi-finals with a narrow win over Angola.

Nigeria defeated Angola 1-0 in the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals. Ademola Lookman scored another decisive goal for the Super Eagles as they inched one step closer to the continental trophy.

What happened?

Nigeria started off by dominating the possession but struggled to create clear-cut chances early on. Things changed, however, when the pace of the game increased toward the end of the first period.

Following a brilliant run down the left flank, Moses Simon provided an assist from Lookman, who made it 1-0 for Nigeria with a powerful finish.

The goal forced Angola to take more risks in the second half while providing more space for Nigeria’s counter-attacks. The Super Eagles thought they had doubled their lead when Victor Osimhen found the back of the net with a header in the 75th minute, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

Angola made a few attempts to get back into the game in the final ten minutes but barely reached Nigeria’s penalty box as the Super Eagles maintained their defensive integrity.

Nigeria will face the winner of Cape Verde’s match against South Africa in a semi-final clash on Wednesday.

Nigeria vs Angola: Man of the Match

Ademola Lookman deserves the Man of the Match title after making another incredible AFCON display for Nigeria. In addition to scoring his side’s match-winning goal, Lookman constantly threatened Angola’s backline with his devastating runs.
