Mauricio Pochettino has backed Nicolas Jackson to become a “great player” after seeing his brilliant start at Chelsea.
Jackson began his journey in European football after securing a move to Villarreal’s U19 team from Casa Sports in 2019. The striker’s performances convinced Chelsea to pay €35m to secure his signing in the summer transfer window.
Since then, Jackson has started all of Chelsea’s Premier League matches as they kick off a new era under Pochettino.
“Nicolas Jackson is gonna be a great player,” Pochettino said on Friday. “We are talking about young players; you can blame me or blame us but they need time.”
Chelsea have struggled for goals in recent weeks, failing to find the back of the net in their last two league games. With Pochettino coming under more pressure, Jackson could become a crucial player for the Argentine if he maintains consistency with his performances in the coming weeks.
The Blues will host Aston Villa in their next Premier League game on Sunday before taking on Brighton in an EFL Cup clash three days later.
