Neymar revealed that his affection for the city of Paris itself and opened up on his desire to make history with PSG.

Pressure and expectation have been a near-constant for Neymar ever since completing a world-record €222m transfer to Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona in 2017.

The Brazilian won it all during a glory-laden spell at Camp Nou, including two LaLiga titles and the Champions League. Keen for a fresh challenge and to make his own claim in the spotlight, however, he left.

Injuries and struggles to recapture his best form, on top of the emergence of a certain Kylian Mbappe, have dogged him in the French capital ever since. Therefore, he made an infamous attempt to return to Barca last summer.

Despite the ongoing transfer talk, though, Neymar ultimately stayed and helped PSG reach their first-ever Champions League final last season.

Now the 28-year-old, who has also won has three Ligue 1 titles in Paris, has now declared his happiness in France.

“I’ve always liked the city of Paris,” Neymar told beIN Sports.

“Even when I was at Barcelona, I used to come here when I had some days off. This place has always been special to me and it still is.”

On his aims with PSG, Neymar said: “For me, every year is a chance to write history, to do something great for the club, and this year will be no different.

“Trying to make history is what truly motivates me. I want to play big matches, win trophies and leave a trace in the club’s history books and archives.”

PSG will return to action on Sunday away to Reims for their fifth game of the 2020/21 Ligue 1 campaign.
