Former Brazilian World Cup-winning captain Cafu made some bold remarks while discussing Neymar.

Neymar is ‘technically better’ than Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, says Cafu.

The Brazilian forward rose up the ranks quickly in football. He first made his name at boyhood club Santos before establishing himself as an elite player at Barcelona between 2013 and 2017. By the age of 25, Neymar was already the world’s most expensive player in history and seen as the heir to Messi and Ronaldo.

Since moving to Paris Saint-Germain in a world-record deal of €222 million in 2017, however, the 29-year-old hasn’t lived up to expectations amid regular injury problems and doubts over his attitude.

What does Cafu think?

“Neymar is technically better than Messi, better than Cristiano Ronaldo, but he must assume the responsibility of a leader,” the two-time World Cup winner told Marca.

“One must dedicate themselves 100 per cent to football, I’m not better than Neymar, but I am better than other right-backs because I dedicated myself to that.

“He [Neymar] has to become a captain.”

Ronaldo returns to action in another 2022 World Cup qualifier for Portugal’s clash with Serbia on Sunday. For match details and betting tips, check out the link here.
