Neymar ends 15-year association with Nike

Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar Jr has announced that he has signed a new deal with Puma, ending his £78.6 million contract with Nike.

The coronavirus pandemic has jolted the financial world. However, at the upper echelons of the sporting world, it seems to not have made an impact. 

Neymar Jr has decided to end his multi-million deal with Nike, forgoing it in favor with a new association with Puma. this brings an end to the Brazilian’s 15-year association with Nike that began when he was a slender 13-year-old. 

The 2019/20 Champions League’s losing finalist ended his £78.6 million contract with Nike to become the new face of the legendary ‘Puma King’ boots.

Neymar shared that he is pleased to join the ranks of legendary footballers Pele, Cruyff, Matthaus, Eusebio and Maradona, vowing to add to their esteemed legacy. 

“I grew up watching videos of great football legends such as Pele, Cruyff, Matthaus, Eusebio and Maradona,” TalkSPORT quoted Neymar.

“These were the KING’s of the pitch, the KING’s of my sport. I wish to bring back the legacy that those athletes created on the pitch. They each played in PUMA, and each of them created their magic in The KING.

“Every time I lace my boots, my KING boots, I will do anything to achieve all of my dreams to honour my name and that of all those great ones who wore the KING before me. This will be my PUMA history. The KING is back!”

Neymar contract with the American firm ran until 2022. The 28-year-old will sport Puma King boots on the pitch and also work as a brand ambassador off it. 

The deal will see him advertise a number of lifestyle, training and sports-inspired footwear products. Bjorn Gulden, the CEO of PUMA, was please with Neymar joining forces with him.

“He is one of the best players in the world and extremely influential for the global football and youth culture. We are very excited and look forward to working with him both on and off the pitch.”
