Neymar and Mauro Icardi gave PSG the chance to keep dreaming about the treble after tonight’s French Cup quarterfinal. In the game against Angers, Mauricio Pochettino decided to rest Kylian Mbappe. His idea was to keep him fresh for next week’s semifinal against Manchester City. In his place, PSG played with Neymar, Di Maria, Draxler, and Mauro Icardi on the attack. All four players performed at a high level that delivered five impressive goals with a cherry on top on the fifth.
Mauro Icardi opened the score with an easy shot after Julian Draxler set him up with an assist between the lines. Neymar provoked an own goal for Angers still in the first half, but he wanted to score his goal. It took PSG twenty minutes in the second half to score that third goal that gave the locals the third goal of the evening. Neymar got it through a header after an assist from Julian Draxler.

Three minutes after Neymar’s goal, Di Maria appeared to deliver one of the best assists we’ve ever seen from him. He didn’t think twice to create a ‘rabona’ for Mauro Icardi to just push the ball in the back of the net. On the replay, you can see ‘Fideo’ getting that timing perfectly for his brilliant set of skills. With no more time left on the clock, Mauro scored his hat-trick that rounds up what can be considered his best performance as a PSG player.
With this victory, PSG will now focus on playing at Metz next weekend before the big game. Parc des Princes will bring us the first semifinal leg between the French giants and Manchester City. Odds are that the Champions League winner will come out of this side of the bracket in the tournament. Kylian Mbappe should be fresh for this crucial match.
