Newcastle’s brilliant performance on home soil wasn’t enough to beat the reigning champions of the Premier League.
Manchester City drew 3-3 with Newcastle in their Premier League game on Sunday. The Citizens dropped points as they escaped defeat against Eddie Howe’s in-form side.
A six-goal thriller!
Man City started the game by pushing for an early breakthrough.
They got what they were looking for when Ilkay Gundogan broke the deadlock in the fifth minute. However, Newcastle surprised their opponents by their clever pressing in midfield, creating chances behind City’s backline to score the equalizer.
Miguel Almiron made it 1-1 for the hosts in the 28th minute, but the Magpies refused to return to their own half after the equalizer.
Only ten minutes later, Allan Saint-Maximin’s precise assist found Callum Wilson, who smashed the ball into the back of City’s net to put Newcastle ahead.
Man City immediately started their efforts to come back into the game, piling up more pressure on Newcastle’s backline at the beginning of the second period.
However, it was Newcastle who doubled their lead in the 54th minute. Kieran Trippier scored a stunning free-kick as Newcastle went 3-1 ahead at their home stadium.
The hosts then tried to hold on to their lead, but Erling Haaland brought the Citizens back into the game just before the hour-mark.
City sent more and more balls behind the Newcastle defenders until they finally found the equalizer in the 64th minute. An inch-perfect through ball from Kevin De Bruyne found Bernardo Silva, who made it 3-3 with a cool finish.
City had several chances to complete their comeback after Silva’s goal but had to settle for the draw as they couldn’t convert their chances.
