Oscar Bobb’s last-minute winner secured a crucial victory for the Citizens.
Manchester City defeated Newcastle 3-2 in their Premier League game on Saturday. A thrilling match saw Pep Guardiola’s side snatch a hard-fought victory at St. James’ Park.
What happened?
City found a better start to the game but failed to snatch their desired early lead. Finally, a spectacular backheel flick from Bernardo Silva broke the deadlock in the 26th minute as City went ahead 1-0.
Newcastle’s reaction was swift and devastating. First, Alexander Isak made it 1-1 with a sublime finish from inside the box in the 35th minute. The Citizens’ rush to restore their lead then led to Newcastle’s second goal. Only two minutes after Isak’s strike, the Magpies made it 2-1 through Anthony Gordon.
The goal forced City to put more bodies forward after the break as Newcastle looked for more counter-attacking chances to possibly extend their lead. However, nothing changed for Guardiola’s side until he sent in Kevin De Bruyne in the 69th minute.
Only a minute after his arrival, the Belgian star scored the equalizer for City with an inch-perfect low shot from behind the box. The Citizens then increased the pressure on Newcastle’s backline, finally scoring the winner in the 91st minute. De Bruyne completed his perfect display for City with a brilliant through ball for Oscar Bobb, who made it 3-2 with a cool finish.
