Ten-man Liverpool completed a sensational comeback to clinch their first victory of the new season.

Liverpool defeated Newcastle 2-1 in their Premier League game on Sunday. Darwin Nunez inspired the Reds to a late comeback at St. James’ Park.

Late Drama

Newcastle started the game as the better side despite a few goalscoring attempts from Liverpool early on. Following a blunder from Trent Alexander Arnold, Anthony Gordon made it 1-0 for the hosts in the 25th minute.

Liverpool were then rocked by a red card for Virgil van Dijk three minutes later. Following a foul on Godron inside the box, the referee sent off the Dutchman with a straight red card as the Reds went a man down.

Liverpool struggled to create any serious goalscoring chances before the break. In the second half, the Reds gained more possession but found no shots on target until Jurgen Klopp decided to bring Darwin Nunez in for Alexis Mac Allister in the 77th minute.

The Uruguayan star brought Liverpool back into the game only four minutes after his substitution. A fantastic low shot from Nunez motivated Liverpool to push for the win in the final ten minutes.

Liverpool then completed their comeback when Nunez scored his second goal of the night in the 93rd minute. This time, a perfect through ball from Mohamed Salah found the striker, who smashed it past Nick Pope with a powerful finish.
