The Red Devils suffered another frustrating defeat at St. James’ Park.

Newcastle defeated Manchester United 1-0 in their Premier League game on Saturday. An uninspiring display from the Red Devils guaranteed their sixth league defeat of the season.

What happened?

Newcastle established their dominance early on as they put United’s backline under pressure from both sides. The Red Devils were not able to conduct any counter-offensive either, as Newcastle’s compact pressing barely allowed any balls to get through their lines.

Harry Maguire’s solid performance saved United on multiple occasions as they ended the first half with a clean sheet. However, Newcastle broke the deadlock only ten minutes after the break.

A precise low cross from Kieran Trippier found Anthony Gordon in front of the goal. The 22-year-old then nodded the ball home to register his sixth league goal of the season.

Erik ten Hag tried to change the course of the game by bringing in Rasmus Hojlund and Antony. But the visitors struggled to create any serious goalscoring chances throughout the second period.

Newcastle vs Man Utd: Man of the Match

Trippier made another wonderful display on the right-hand side of Newcastle’s backline as they dominated United at St. James’ Park. The England international provided his eighth assist of the season to ensure his side’s victory while containing Alejandro Garnacho’s goal threat throughout the match.
