Man City crushed Newcastle as they displayed another brilliant attacking performance at St. James Park.
Manchester City defeated Newcastle with a 4-0 result in their Premier League game on Sunday. The Citizens extend their lead on top of the table to four points after another big win.
Man City came into the match on the back of a 7-0 win over Leeds United. The Magpies had every right to be afraid of their opponents’ attacking line. However, it was a defender who opened the scoring at St. James Park.
Following a horrible defensive mistake by Ciaran Clark and Martin Dubravka, Ruben Dias scored the opener in the fifth minute. The Citizens held on to the possession and kept Leeds at bay after the goal until they got their second one.
Joao Cancelo lashed the ball from outside the box with an unstoppable strike to the top-left corner of the net. Man City had 18 more minutes to extend their lead in the first half. However, they were not able to convert their chances and ended the first half with a 2-0 win.
Newcastle made a few chances to come back into the game at the beginning of the second half. But Riyad Mahrez ended their dreams by converting a brilliant Oleksandr Zinchenko assist.
Man City were on top of their game by the time they had to play the final ten minutes. Following another stunning piece of teamwork, Raheem Sterling scored his side’s fourth goal of the night in the 86th minute.
The Citizens extend their lead on top of the table to four points as Chelsea dropped two points against Wolves. They will now prepare to meet Brentford in a Carabao Cup match on Wednesday.
On the other hand, Newcastle continued their nightmarish run by suffering their tenth defeat of the season. Next up for the Magpies is a league game against Manchester United on Monday.
