The Spurs’ first and second captains both leave the club this summer.
Tottenham have confirmed Son Heung-Min as their new captain for the 2023-24 season.
Earlier this summer, Hugo Lloris confirmed his decision to leave Spurs on a summer deal. According to widespread reports from English media, the goalkeeper is on the verge of completing a free move to Lazio.
Harry Kane also ended his legendary spell at Tottenham ahead of the new season. The England captain completed a €120m move to Bayern Munich, leaving the Spurs with a captaincy choice to make.
As expected, the club named Son as their new skipper ahead of a Premier League opener against Brentford on Sunday.
“It’s such a big honour to captain this huge club,” Son told Tottenham’s official website.
“It was big surprise and a very proud moment. I’ve already said to the players that everyone should feel like a captain, on and off the pitch.
“It’s a new season, a fresh start and I will give everything for this shirt and this armband.”
Son joined the Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015. Since then, he has established himself as a key player for the club, registering 103 goals and 58 assists in 268 Premier League appearances.
As Tottenham prepare to start the new season without Kane, Son’s leadership will be vital for Ange Postecoglou’s team.
