During his official unveiling as Javi Gracia’s replacement, Sam Allardyce made a bold claim.

New Leeds United boss Sam Allardyce believes no manager is ahead of him in terms of footballing knowledge – not even Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp, and Mikel Arteta.

Allardyce has replaced Javi Gracia at Elland Road for the final four games of the season. Leeds hope he can help them retain their Premier League status. They sit 17th in the standings at the moment.

“Far too many people think that I am old and antiquated, which is far from the truth,” Allardyce said at his first Leeds press conference.

“I might be 68 and old, but there’s nobody ahead of me in football terms. Not Pep, not Klopp, not Arteta.

“It’s all there with me. They do what they do, I do what I do. In terms of knowledge and depth of knowledge, I’m up there with them. I’m not saying I’m better than them, but certainly as good as they are.”

Allardyce has coached Bolton, Newcastle, Blackburn, West Ham, Sunderland, Crystal Palace, Everton, and West Brom in the Premier League.

He’ll make his Leeds debut this Saturday away to Guardiola’s Manchester City team.
