The former Arsenal star edges closer toward leaving the Turkish side.

Mesut Ozil has no future at Fenerbahce, according to the club’s newly appointed coach Jorge Jesus.

Ozil has not played a single match for his side since his dispute with former manager Ismail Kartal. The German midfielder pledged his future to the club in an emotional message on Tuesday.

However, the Yellow Canaries’ new boss says Ozil’s time at the club is over.

“He had his time, his space,” Jesus told a press conference.

“He has a beautiful history in Turkey, nobody can take it away from him. He is a well-known player around the world. But I will follow exactly what was the end of the Ozil era.

“The most important thing here is not the coach Jorge Jesus, the most important thing here is not the player Ozil, the most important thing here is not any player. The most important thing here is Fenerbahce and it is from there that I build my ideas and the players who come to work with me.”

Ozil scored nine goals and provided two assists in his 26 appearances for Fenerbahce last season. The 33-year-old is still two years away from the expiration of his contract.

However, the latest statement from Jorge Jesus casts serious doubt about his future at the club.
