Paul Pogba can be one of the best players in the world, but his “lack of commitment” distracts from his talent, says Gary Neville.

United spent £89 million to bring Paul Pogba back to Manchester from Juventus in 2016.

During his time at Turin, the Frenchman established himself as a well-rounded midfielder on all fronts. However, he has failed to hit those heights at Old Trafford.

Since returning to United, Pogba has only shown occasional brilliance on the pitch. Consistency has been a major issue for the Frenchman. Last season, he was barely on the pitch as he missed majority of the season due to a knee injury.

Off the pitch, the 27-year-old has been a subject of scrutiny as well. It’s become commonplace for the Frenchman to make the headlines for all of the ‘wrong’ reasons.

Gary Neville insists Pogba can be one of the best in the world but his off the pitch shenanigans overshadow his quality a great deal.

“For me, Paul Pogba has the capability of being the best player at the club and one of the best players in the Premier League and the world,” the ex-United captain told the Webby and O’Neil YouTube channel.

“My only issue ever with him – I’ve never really been overly critical of his performances – is the noise around him wanting to leave the club and his agent pushing him elsewhere.”

“It’s that lack of commitment which for me does distract. It happened when I was at the club as well so it’s not unique.

“But it does need to be dealt with because when your most famous player looks like he wants to leave, it unsettles everybody.”

Gary Neville is not the only former United associate that has heaped praise on Paul Pogba lately.
