Netherlands become the first team to secure their place in the next round after a brilliant attacking display.

Netherlands defeated USA 3-1 in their World Cup game on Saturday. A fantastic display in the first half was enough to ensure Oranje’s qualification to the next round.

World Cup favourites?

Netherlands remained unbeaten in the group stage, but their shaky performances convinced most observers that they were not among the top favourites to win the World Cup.

The Oranje’s display against the USA was a much-improved testament to their attacking qualities.

Netherlands stunned their opponents with an incredible team goal in the tenth minute. Louis van Gaal’s side then maintained the pressure on the USMNT’s backline throughout the first period.

They finally broke their opponents’ resistance just before half-time.

Denzel Dumfries’ second assist saw Daley Blind smash the ball into the back of the net to double to make it 2-0.

USA looked much more dangerous in their attacks in the second period. Netherlands kept on creating opportunities with counter-attacks.

However, they were not able to prevent the USMNT from ruining their clean sheet through Haji Wright in the 76th minute.

USMNT hoped to bounce back by finding an equalizer after their first goal. However, their attack provided more space for Netherlands, who wanted to finish off the game.

Van Gaal’s side finally put their victory to bed when Dumfries completed his fantastic display with an 81st-minute goal.

The 3-1 win sends Netherlands to the next round, where they will meet the winners of Argentina’s clash against Australia.
