Two late goals secured the top of the Group G table for the Netherlands while Norway are eliminated.
The Netherlands defeated Norway with a 1-0 result in their World Cup qualifier on Tuesday. The victory secured the Oranje’s place on top of the group’s table, while Norway lost their playoffs spot to Turkey.
No Haaland in the 2022 World Cup!
Both sides remained cautious of their opponents’ counter-attacks in the first half. The Netherland pushed to get the opener but they had no luck against Norway’s solid defence.
Things remained the same in the second half, but this time Norway were more open as they intensified their attacks. The Lions were trying to get the ball to Erling Haaland upfront, but they rarely managed to get the ball over the midfield.
The Netherlands finally broke the deadlock through Steven Bergwijn’s strike in the 84th minute. Memphis Depay scored again for the national team to seal their victory in the extra time.
Norway are eliminated from the qualifiers, with Haaland missing out on another major tournament. Meanwhile, the Netherlands qualify for the World Cup, and Turkey must prepare for the playoffs.
