During an interview, Julian Nagelsmann revealed why he had the luxury of rejecting Real Madrid when they approached him to sign him.

Julian Nagelsmann has been on Real Madrid’s radar since 2018, he just confirmed it during an interview. This was right after Zinedine Zidane decided to call it quits after his first spell with the Spanish club. Nagelsmann was just starting to gain recognition at Hoffenheim but Florentino Perez already had him on his radar. Today, Nagelsmann has become one of the most exciting managerial talents in the world due to his success at RB Leipzig.

At only 33 years of age, Julian leads the wave of a new generation of German managers who will take over the world in the next decade. Florentino Perez knew this early on during his career, which is why he wanted to sign him back then. But Nagelsmann didn’t feel ready to take on the challenge to coach the biggest club in the world.

Nagelsmann rejects Real Madrid.

Much like he’s done it throughout his entire career, Julian considered an offer from Perez but he was objective about it. Coaching Real Madrid so early in his career could’ve been career suicide. As per Goal, Nagelsmann said the following: “I said that it made no sense at the time. It would only have been three weeks until the start of training, I could barely speak Spanish. That would not have been enough for me or Madrid.”

“I see myself as a talented coach who would like to advance to the best and still has a lot of development potential,” Nagelsmann added. “I don’t have to be world coach of the year at some point, but I would like to be named one of the best coaches one day. If you want to get to the top shelf, you have to win something. Apart from the Under-19 Bundesliga [at Hoffenheim in 2013-14], I don’t have any titles.”
