The Lillywhites continue their search for a first piece of silverware in nearly a decade after being unable to beat the Sky Blues.

Ryan Mason says his “mind is sad” after Tottenham lost the 2020-21 Carabao Cup title to Manchester City at Wembley.

The scoreline remained tied at 0-0 for the majority of the game and it was not until the final ten minutes that the deadlock was broken.

Kevin De Bruyne curled in a free-kick in the Tottenham box and Aymeric Laporte rose the highest to head the ball past Hugo Lloris and snatch the winner for Man City in the 81st minute.

The 1-0 win saw the Sky Blues clinch their fourth successive Carabao Cup title, matching Liverpool’s record in the 1980s for most consecutive triumphs.

“I’ll be completely honest, my mind now is sad because of what’s just happened,” the Tottenham interim boss said in his post-match press conference, via Football London.

“My mind isn’t thinking down the line and in football you need to live in the moment. My mind is on preparing the team for the next big moment.”

Asked about the feeling in the dressing room, Mason added: “Pain. It’s normal that they’re hurting and it shows that they care and these people feel deeply about this football club.

“We gave everything today.”
