A four-match winless run has put the Tottenham boss under fresh scrutiny as the club’s title challenge suffers.

Jamie Redknapp has warned Jose Mourinho over his negative tactics, suggesting they could lead Tottenham into ‘trouble’.

Sunday’s 1-1 draw away to Wolves extended Spurs’ winless run in the Premier League to four games, leaving them six points behind pacesetters Liverpool in fifth-place in the league standings.

Tanguy Ndombele’s 20-yard strike had put Mourinho’s men in front at Molineux. They held on to that narrow one-goal advantage for 85 minutes, despite Wolves’ dominance, until Saiss headed Pedro Neto’s cross past Hugo Lloris.

Now Redknapp reckons Mourinho’s preference for sitting back in games has become poor and potentially costly habit.

“I think the disappointment is they had it in their hands,” the former Spurs midfielder told Sky Sports as quoted on Goal.

“If you’re going to keep sitting back, you’re asking for trouble.

“This is not a one-off – there are many games where this has happened, so it’s becoming a pattern. The more often it happens, the more negative the players get.

“They start to think ‘it will happen again’. It transmits to the brain and it’s a major problem for Jose right now.”
