A victory for Tottenham over Stoke City did not stop Jose Mourinho from expressing his ‘anger’ at Dele Alli.

Jose Mourinho was in no mood to defend Dele Alli after the midfielder made a string of errors in his side’s victory over Stoke City.

Spurs were huge favorites going into the clash and they followed the script with a 3-1 victory at the Bet365 stadium. Goals from Gareth Bale, Ben Davies, and Harry Kane saw the North London side march on in the Carabao Cup. They will take on Brentford in the semi-finals.

However, Mourinho made comments on Alli that further explains the player’s ‘uncertain’ situation at the club as it stands.

The 24-year-old did wow fans with a double nutmeg dribble and had two chances saved by Stoke keeper Andy Lonergan in the 66th minute.

Alli had only played 16 minutes this month prior to Wednesday’s start, his first since Nov. 26 in the Europa League.

However, he also gave away possession to Stoke on the Potters’ second-half equalizer and was subbed off for Erik Lamela before Ben Davies and Harry Kane scored in the final 20 minutes.

Mourinho didn’t hide his thoughts on Alli while speaking after the game.

“For me a player that plays in that position is a player that has to link and create and not to create problems for his own team,” Mourinho said as per Football London.

“In that situation, an objective counter-attack would probably end with a goal, and it ended with a counter-attack behind our defenders.”

“We were unbalanced because when you are in possession you have full-backs out wide and another midfielder in a different line and they caught us in a counter-attack and they transformed the result of the game that was totally in our hands, so yes I am upset.”

Amid his current struggles at the club, Dele Alli has been urged to make a move away from North London.
