Jose Mourinho was happy to take home the positives from his side’s performance following their defeat to Chelsea on Thursday night.

Jose Mourinho saw some unity from his side against Chelsea and claims a defeat was an unfair reflection of their performance.

From being top of the table and ‘title challengers’ in mid-December, Spurs find themselves even struggling for a top-four spot.

Mourinho watched on from the stands as his side struggled to get a grip on the game.

Spurs came out much better in the second half but the penalty from Jorginho was just enough to seal all three points for Chelsea.

It is the third successive league loss for Tottenham and the last time this happened dates all the way back to 2012.

For Mourinho, his first outing against Tuchel didn’t go well. Asides from losing all three points, the defeat made sure the Portuguese manager had now lost two consecutive home games for the first time in his coaching career.

Regardless, the 58-year-old was not overly critical of his side and took a surprising approach of reflecting on their good parts in the game.

“The first half wasn’t easy. They were dominating us, they created some imbalance in our left side, it wasn’t easy,” Mourinho said to the club’s website.

“But the reality is that they scored on that penalty. After that, no problems, no panic, no big chances. The game was more in their hands in the first half, but nothing coming out of that.”

“In the second half, completely different. We were the best team, we pressed higher, recovered the ball faster, getting more players into attacking areas and in the second half, I believe we deserved more than what we got.”

“So, the negative feeling of a defeat doesn’t change, but you can take some positives, you can work at the training ground as a player and a coach with the feeling that we are together. The players gave what they had to give in the second half, and at least there is that positivity.”
