The French midfielder is thriving for Tottenham this season despite suffering a difficult debut campaign in 2019/20.
Jose Mourinho has singled out Tanguy Ndombele for praise by noting how he has undergone a ‘big development’. The midfielder, however, is still not ready to complete 90 minutes for the team.
The former Lyon star joined Tottenham in July 2019 in a club-record €62m deal. He struggled to make his mark last season, especially when Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino four months into his debut campaign.
Ndombele’s fitness levels left the Spurs coach unimpressed, resulting in a tense relationship between the pair.
But Ndombele has brushed aside those issues and won himself a regular spot in Mourinho’s line-up for this season as a result of his impressive performances.
“We are happy, apart from a couple of matches where his performances were not good, overall there was a big evolution,” said Mourinho as quoted by Football London.
“I believe, to play at this intensity – Premier League intensity – and to last for 90 minutes is of course another step in the direction of his fitness.
“But he’s a player of course who is playing very well and is giving some good things to the team.”
Ndombele hopes to make his 12th start of the Premier League season on Wednesday evening at home to Fulham.
