After Spurs suffered three back-to-back defeats for the first time in nine years, the Portuguese tactician’s future is being questioned.
Jose Mourinho has come out to defend his position amid suggestions he is under mounting pressure as Tottenham manager.
Tottenham emerged as surprise title contenders earlier in the campaign but now find themselves far away from even a Europa League spot in the second half of the season.
A series of undesirable results leave Spurs at eight in the standings, 14 points off the top of the table and seven off a top-four spot.
The north London side’s sharp decline over the winter period has started to raise questions as to whether Jose Mourinho is the right man to take the team forward.
The former Manchester United, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Chelsea, and FC Porto boss, however, is synonymous with success having delivered a trophy with every club he has managed so far.
And Mourinho, while acknowledging his side’s recent failures, says he could be the one to end the club’s 13-year trophy drought.
“I put pressure on myself every day,” said Mourinho, via Goal. “I don’t need others to put pressure on me. I put pressure on myself every day. Every day.
“So, since 2012 without three defeats in a row? Correct? But since when without a title? Maybe I can give one.”
