Paris Saint-Germain’s struggles for European ascent is unacceptable given their substantial investments, according to Jose Mourinho.
The 3-0 Champions League semi-final victory against RB Leipzig last Tuesday marked a historic event for Paris Saint-Germain as they reached the competition’s final for the first time in their history.
PSG now aim for more space in the history books as they look to become the first French team in 27 years to win Europe’s most prestigious prize.
It was the takeover by Qatar Sports Investments in 2011 that helped them become the superpower they are today.
With the power of heavy financial backing, they brought in the likes of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, Thiago Silva, among other notable players.
Les Parisiens have enjoyed unparalleled domestic success since then, but they are yet to celebrate any sort of European glory.
Prior to this season, and bar 1994-95, they never made it past the quarter-final stage of the Champions League.
“I think it is a failure that they didn’t win it in the two seasons before because for five or six years the investment is crazy, the list of top players that is there is incredible,” Jose Mourinho told DAZN, via Goal.
“For how many seasons Thiago Silva is there, Marquinhos is there, and then all the big guys, Ibra [Zlatan Ibrahimovic], [Edinson] Cavani, Neymar, [Kylian] Mbappe.”
