The prolific South Korean forward has had talks over a contract extension with Spurs put on hold.

Jose Mourinho understands Tottenham’s decision to delay contract talks with Son Heung-min, but he is confident the forward will eventually commit his future to the club.

The financial impact from the COVID-19 pandemic has forced Spurs to delay negotiations with Son. The 28-year-old, however, is still under contract until June 2023, meaning there is no need for immediate action.

“Son is not a problem, he has a contract still for a couple of years if I am not wrong, maybe even three. I believe, just to wait for the right moment to do it,” said Spurs boss Mourinho as quoted in the Mail.

“Probably this situation with the world where we are, the covid situation, I do not think it is the right moment for players and clubs to discuss contracts with so many people losing jobs and not working and difficulties.

“I believe that when the sun shines again for the world, I believe the club and Sonny they are going to arrive quite easily to a conclusion.”

Son scored his 13th Premier League goal of the season on Sunday to help Spurs bag a 2-0 win over West Brom.
