Touted as title contenders early in the campaign, Jose Mourinho’s men now sit sixth in the standings after yet another loss on Sunday.
Jose Mourinho was left with “good feelings” despite Tottenham were beaten by Brighton 1-0 on Sunday.
Spurs suffered their second successive Premier League loss in a space of just 72 hours after the 3-1 defeat at the hands of Liverpool on Thursday, losing more ground in the title race.
Leandro Trossard broke the deadlock inside the first 20 minutes of the match, and the Seagulls stood firm to record their first home win of the season.
Tottenham enjoyed their fair share of time at the top of the table earlier but, after managing just two wins in their last nine fixtures, are now adrift of Champions League spots.
“In the first half, I felt the team was probably too sad with the goal conceded and the situation. There was a lack of energy,” Mourinho told BBC Sport.
“The boys showed great spirit in the second half and the boys showed they are suffering and they tried to fight against that sadness.
“They tried, so I have nothing negative to say about them. I leave the game with a good feeling about my boys because they tried hard in the second half.
“We tried everything but they defended everything, brought on another center-back, and it was not possible for us to score.”
