One of Tottenham’s newest stars received a heartfelt present from Jose Mourinho after winning against Manchester City.

Jose Mourinho kept his promise made to Sergio Reguilon before Tottenham’s game against Manchester City last weekend. The Portuguese boss purchased a £500 ham for the Spaniard for his excellent performance vs the Blues.

Reguilon managed to show strength in the defensive compartment for Mourinho’s side on Saturday. He subsequently shut down City winger Riyad Mahrez from causing any trouble and won the match by 2-0. The Algerian attempted four dribbles past Reguilon, however could not go through a single one of them. Moreover, with the three points, the Spurs climbed to the top of the Premier League.

Later in an Instagram post, Mourinho announced the deal he made with the Spain international. And consequently, Reguilon received his reward from his head coach.

“A promise is a promise,” Mourinho wrote. “It cost me £500 but I keep my promises.”

A developing star.

Reguilon has been evolving to adopt a key role in north London after his £28 million move from Real Madrid. Under Mourinho, the left-back has featured in five of Tottenham’s last six games in the English top-flight. In addition to that, he has completed two assists, including the one for Gareth Bale.

Mourinho’s men lost their opening fixture to Everton at home, but are progressing towards the title at the moment. It will be interesting to see how Reguilon will perform against the other big clubs in the future. Tottenham will play their Europa League game against Ludogorets this week.
