The Italian star will stay at Roma despite getting linked with a move to the Premier League.

Jose Mourinho has expressed his frustration over Nicolo Zaniolo’s transfer situation at Roma.

Zaniolo emerged as a possible transfer target for Tottenham at the beginning of the winter transfer window. But the Spurs’ interest fizzled out after they signed Arnaut Danjuma on a loan deal from Villarreal.

Bournemouth were the next Premier League side to inquire about Zaniolo’s situation. But on Saturday, the Italian star reportedly declined to meet the club’s representatives over a possible transfer.

Asked about Zaniolo, Mourinho told a press conference: “Unfortunately, Zaniolo seems to be staying.

“I say that because he told all of us that he doesn’t want to play or train for Roma.

“After the game with Spezia I said I thought he would stay and now I say unfortunately it looks like that’s the case.”

Roma will face Napoli in a crucial Serie A game on Sunday. But Mourinho makes it clear that Zaniolo won’t play for his side in the upcoming match.

“I can’t tell you the details, but he is not available tomorrow,” the Roma boss added. “All that matters now is that we are focused on tomorrow’s game with the players who want to do well for this club.”
