Chelsea star Mason Mount has spoken at length on the major reason they suffered a defeat at the hands of Everton on Saturday night.
Mason Mount says Chelsea cannot afford to start games the way they did against Everton.
The Toffees were in the ascendency right from the onset and it was no surprise they opened the scoring in the 22nd minute via a penalty from Sigurdsson. That goal was enough to see Carlo Ancelotti get the better of Frank Lampard via a 1-0 scoreline at the end of the game.
In the second half, Chelsea were lacking effectiveness in the final third and failed to take a single shot on target.
A free-kick attempt from Mason Mount that hit the woodwork was the closest attempt for the Blues in the second half.
The result also saw Chelsea end their 17-game unbeaten run. It is disappointing as a win could have taken them temporarily to first place.
Moving forward, Mason Mount says his side cannot afford to start games without urgency and decisiveness as they did against Everton.
“Everton are a tough team, they make it very hard,” he said as quoted by the club’s official website.
“We know we didn’t start well enough, we didn’t start like we have been playing recently, and then we got punished. From 1-0 down it is a difficult game, so we have to look at how we started and correct that for the next game.
“These things happen sometimes,” Mount added.
“But we want to be pushing for number one and we can’t start like that. We know that.”
“We have to look at where we went wrong and really try to correct it for the next game because the games come thick and fast and it’s another away game so we need to ready for that.”
Mason Mount will be hoping Chelsea put their defeat behind them when they take on Wolves next at the Molineux Stadium on Tuesday.
