Meet the first-ever African semi-finalists!

Portugal struggled to find their feet in the game but kept their dominance over the possession.

Brutal physical challenges in midfield saw Morocco prevent their European rivals from effectively creating chances. Meanwhile, Achraf Hakimi’s runs down the right-hand side maintained the pressure on Portugal’s backline throughout the first period.

Following a searching cross from Yahia Attiyat Allah, Youssef En-Nesyri flew above the Portuguese defenders to make it 1-0 for the Atlas Lions.

Given Morocco’s defensive form so far in the tournament, Portugal immediately understood they were in trouble. But their hasty attempts to get back into the game weren’t enough to beat the African giants.

Cristiano Ronaldo and co came close to scoring the equalizer a few more times in the final ten minutes. But perfect goalkeeping from Yassine Bono prevented them from finding the back of the net.

Walid Cheddira received two yellow cards in the span of two minutes. However, it was already too late for Portugal to benefit from his dismissal.

Morocco made history by becoming the first African nation to reach the World Cup semi-finals. On Wednesday, the Atlas Lions will face the winners of France’s upcoming clash against England.
