The high-flying Norwegian was on target yet again to help Man City grab a crucial Champions League victory over Bayern Munich.

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has scored the most goals of any Premier League player in history over the course of a single campaign.

The 22-year-old scored his 45th goal of the season in Tuesday’s 3-0 first-leg win over Bayern Munich in City’s Champions League quarter-final tie.

His strike enabled him to break the record for the most goals scored in all competitions by a Premier League player in a single season.

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah (2017/18) and ex-Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy (2002/03) previously shared the record with 44 goals.

Interestedly, Salah and Van Nistelrooy took 52 games to reach the 44-goal mark. Haaland needed just 39 matches to surpass it.

‘Haaland is a monster’

Speaking prior to City’s Champions League victory, Mario Gomez hailed Haaland as a striker that strikes fear into ‘every team on the planet’

“I think every team on the planet has to fear Erling Haaland because he’s a monster,” the former Bayern Munich striker said on BT Sport.

“He’s an unbelievable striker. I told everybody when he signed for Manchester City who said ‘with the football of Pep, does this match or not’ – I was like, just imagine how many balls were crossed into the box in Dortmund and how many goals he scored.

“Then imagine again in Manchester, with a million more passes through the box, and he will always be there. This is what he’s showing now. His feeling for the space in the box is just incredible. Physically he’s a beast, so congrats to Man City for signing this player.”

Haaland will be seeking his 12th Champions League goal of the season next Wednesday in the second leg of the City-Bayern quarter-final contest.
