Chelsea shortlist three ‘world-class’ defensive targets

The European champions have shortlisted Jules Kounde, Diego Carlos, and Presnel Kimpembe as their three central defensive transfer targets.

Despite Chelsea’s priority being on signing a top striker, Thomas Tuchel is keen on a new ‘world-class’ center-back. The Blues boss wants somebody who can fill an aging Thiago Silva’s boots as a leader at the back while stepping in as a potential replacement for Kurt Zouma.

Kounde is Tuchel’s top defensive target, although the Frenchman’s €70 million price tag could be a problem. His Sevilla teammate Carlos is Chelsea’s Plan B. Kimpembe, meanwhile, could be available following Sergio Ramos’ arrival at Paris Saint-Germain. [Fichajes – in Spanish]

Messi expected to sign new Barcelona contract

Barcelona have offered the necessary financial guarantees to convince La Liga to approve Lionel Messi’s registration for next season.

The club’s president, Joan Laporta, and Messi’s father and agent, Jorge, have struck an agreement for a new deal. Therefore, Barcelona have given La Liga a series of guarantees relating to their salary cap. It apparently includes the sales of some high-paid players. [Diario AS]

Despite Cristiano Ronaldo looking more likely to stay, Juventus still harbor hopes of completing a deal for Gabriel Jesus.
