Borussia Monchengladbach defender Matthias Ginter is eager to battle against Real Madrid’s star attacker in the Champions League.
Borussia Monchengladbach defender Matthias Ginter admitted Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema’s threat to the club. The German side will face Los Blancos in the Champions League fixture on Tuesday.
Subsequently, Madrid will hope to recoup from their 3-2 shocking home defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk last week.
Zinedine Zidane’s men conceded three first-half goals from the Ukrainian side at Alfredo Di Stefano stadium. However, Madrid fought back only to see themselves lose by a one-goal margin.
Nevertheless, the La Liga champions recovered following their massive victory in the first El Classico against Barcelona. Though, this will be a test for Zidane & Co. after a rollercoaster ride from the beginning of the season.
On the other hand, Gladbach will feature in their first Champions League spell since the 2016-17 season. The Bundesliga side evidently tied 2-2 against Serie A giants Inter Milan at San Siro. Now, the club hopes to pull out a miracle at home turf against Madrid.
Though, Benzema will be put on a test to perform for his side following just one goal in seven appearances.
But, the France international is fifth on the list of Champions League all-time top scorers. And, Gladbach’s defender is aware of Benzema’s abilities to maneuver as he played for Borussia Dortmund earlier.
Ready for the test.
Ginter moved from BVB to join Monchengladbach in 2017. He believes that Benzema is an unpredictable player with a different style. However, Ginter knows the skill of the Frenchman when he comes inside the penalty box.
“I think it’s clear that Karim Benzema is a very good player,” the Germany international told a pre-match press conference. “He’s a top striker who’s been at this level for many years.
“Sometimes he looks a bit odd, but when he gets inside the box, he’s a poacher. It’s difficult to play against him, but I think we’ll be able to defend as a team.
“I faced him a few years ago, so I know his style. He’s a top attacker.”
