The Reds have offloaded another forward ahead of the next season.
Monaco manager Philippe Clement has revealed Takumi Minamino will join the club from Liverpool this summer.
In addition to Monaco, Leeds United were reportedly eager to add Minamino to their ranks. However, it seems the Ligue 1 giants have sealed a move for the Liverpool star.
Speaking to AFP, Clement confirmed Minamino’s move is imminent.
“I’m very happy, I’ve known him for a long time,” he said. “He was very high on our list. Everyone here is convinced that he has the qualities to bring something to the team.
“He already has experience and has done a lot of good things at Salzburg, in a style close to ours, just like at Liverpool where there is a lot of competition. That’s why this is an opportunity.”
Minamino joined Liverpool from RB Salzburg in January 2020. The Japan international registered a total of 14 goals and three assists in his 53 appearances for the Reds.
Often used as a backup option, Minamino provided much-needed squad depth for Jurgen Klopp’s star-studded attacking line.
Minamino’s move comes after Bayern Munich sealed a €40m deal for Sadio Mane last week. It seems the arrivals of Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho, and Luis Diaz have persuaded Jurgen Klopp to free up space in his side’s forward line.
