Senegal fans flashed lasers at Mohamed Salah as he stepped up to take a penalty in the play-off final loss.
Mohamed Salah was targeted with lasers during Egypt’s crucial World Cup playoff final against Senegal.
Egypt went into the playoff with a 1-0 lead but an own goal by Hamdi Fathi after just four minutes gave Senegal the fighting chance they were looking for.
But it only went from bad to worse for The Pharaohs as they lost a second consecutive penalty shootout to Segenal, who ended up qualifying for the World Cup in Qatar.
However, in addition to the own goal woes, Egypt had to deal with lasers from the home supporters, which came to a head when Salah stepped up during the penalty shootout, only to blaze his shot over the bar amid the distractions.
Salah’s Liverpool teammate Sadio Mane scored the winning penalty, repeating his heroics from the thrilling AFCON finale earlier this year.
Goalkeeper Mohammed El Shenawy and Aston Villa winger Trezeguet were both targeted with lasers as they laid on the floor, recovering from injuries, while Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny was also affected during talks with officials.
Salah and Mane return to Liverpool who are set to host Watford in the Premier League on Saturday and take on Benfica in the Champions League next Tuesday.
