The Egyptian star Mohamed Salah backed his Liverpool attacking teammate following recent criticism. Here’s what he says.

Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino has been receiving some unwanted criticism following Diogo Jota’s arrival from Wolves. Part of the reason is the Portugal international’s impressive form which helped the Reds achieve wins across all competitions. However, teammate Mohamed Salah defended Firmino knowing what the Brazilian has done for Liverpool.

Under the reign of Jurgen Klopp, Sadio Mane, Salah, and the Brazil international created a deadly trio in the Premier League. And evidently, Firmino played a crucial role to put the effort for the team instead of being a selfish goalscorer. Although, the 29-year-old has been struggling to score goals recently and could be in grave danger of missing his spot on the team.

Moreover, Klopp will have to make some important decisions considering competition to Firmino for the attacking position. But Salah knows he cannot be involved in the coach’s decision. And the Egyptian has enjoyed his time with Firmino in Liverpool.

The prolific Reds forward told beIN Sports: “I cannot decide on this matter; it is the coach’s decision.

“But I cannot forget what Firmino gave to the team. You cannot say he should sit on the bench because he scored fewer goals than before.

“He gave the club everything he had in the past years. He creates many opportunities for us. Our playing tactic reduces his chances to score.

“We have played together for the past four years, and it is natural not to score in every match.

“What matters is what the team achieves as a whole, and I believe that we help the team a lot.”
