Luka Modric is certain Eden Hazard will prove his Real Madrid critics wrong once he is rid of the injuries that have held him back.
Hazard’s dream move to Real Madrid quickly turned into a nightmare as fitness woes spoiled his debut campaign, resulting in a mere 22 appearances in all competitions.
Just one goal and seven assists were hardly what fans expected in return for his €100m transfer from Chelsea. Especially as he was the man tipped to reignite the club’s attack and was vouched for by manager Zinedine Zidane.
Injuries have continued to be a problem this season, with Hazard having to withdraw from last week’s 1-0 win over Valladolid due to a muscular injury. He’ll likely be unavailable for around three to four weeks.
Nevertheless, Modric expects the 29-year-old to come good and prove his doubters wrong.
“It’s not a comfortable situation for Hazard,” the Real Madrid playmaker told El Partidazo de Cope on his teammate.
“He’s amazing, he’s going to prove it. Only injuries can prevent him going forward. When he’s been fit, he’s shown he’s important, it’s a shame. We need him.
“Hazard is one of the best in the world, he is incredible, and I am sure he will show it this year if injuries do not prevent it. Last season he already showed that he was important until injuries stopped him. It goes to show why Madrid paid so much for him.”
