Messi could reunite with more former teammates at his new club.
Inter Miami has set its sights on securing another football legend following the signing of Lionel Messi. The Major League Soccer (MLS) team’s owners, led by David Beckham, are now pursuing a deal to bring Sergio Ramos to their ranks.
Reports from Spanish outlet Sport suggest that talks are underway with the veteran center-back, who recently became a free agent after leaving Paris Saint-Germain.
Having been Messi’s teammate at PSG, Ramos would add further star power to Inter Miami’s emerging project. Despite mixed fortunes in recent years, Ramos is widely regarded as one of the best defenders of the past two decades. His illustrious career at Real Madrid includes an impressive haul of 22 major honors, including four Champions League titles and five La Liga triumphs. He also played a pivotal role in Spain’s success, winning the World Cup in 2010 and two European Championships in 2008 and 2012.
Inter Miami has already completed a deal for former Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets, who will reunite with Messi in the MLS. The club is also reportedly in discussions with Jordi Alba, another Spanish player and former Barcelona teammate of Messi and Busquets.
The ambitious moves by Inter Miami align with club co-owner Jorge Mas’ statement that more signings are expected this summer. Despite potential challenges related to the MLS salary cap, the team remains determined to reinforce its squad ahead of Messi’s arrival in 2023.
As the transfer window opens, Inter Miami faces the task of managing their Designated Players (DPs) to accommodate potential signings, either by renegotiating existing deals or facilitating player departures. The Florida-based franchise continues to make waves in the football world with its bold recruitment strategy and high-profile acquisitions.
