The Argentine superstar will be available as a free agent next summer.

Major League Soccer (MLS) commissioner Don Garber has confirmed there is concrete interest in bringing Lionel Messi to the league.

Messi is a few months away from the expiration of his current deal at Paris Saint-Germain. Currently, there is no prospect of signing a new deal at Parc des Princes, which has led to speculations about his future.

Messi will most likely reveal his transfer decision after the World Cup. But that hasn’t stopped the MLS clubs from beginning their efforts to land the historic deal.

“There has been an interest in Messi. We believe a lot. However, in the formality of the rules so at the moment he is under contract and then he will decide what to do,” the MLS commissioner said.

“It would be fantastic to have someone like him in our championship, someone of his stature who can offer a global platform to talk about MLS, even beyond the borders of our countries.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if we hear more voices about Messi in particular.”

In addition to the MLS sides, Barcelona might also push to bring their club legend back to Camp Nou. However, suitors must prepare to face stiff resistance from PSG, who are well known for not letting their star players out without a fight.
