Henrikh Mkhitaryan put on a show as he bagged a brilliant hat-trick in Roma’s 3-1 win against Genoa on Sunday afternoon.

Mkhitaryan was in perfect form for Roma today after his hat-trick inspired his side to yet another win in Serie A.

The Armenian grabbed his first against Genoa in the additional minutes of the first half but saw the home side equalize five minutes after the break.

Mkhitaryan then scored a brilliant goal in the 66th minute to put his side back in the lead before sealing the win with yet another five minutes from time.

In the absence of star forward Edin Dzeko, the 31-year-old took on the burden of goal-scoring and put in a good shift all together asides from his goals.

Speaking after the game, Mkhitaryan claimed he got extra motivation from his injured teammate who fired him up for the game today.

“I spoke with Dzeko and he told me that I had to score. We need him, we hope he will be back soon, every player is important to us,” the Armenian told Sky Sport Italia.

“In the first half we had a few chances but we made a few mistakes, luckily we scored before going to the locker room.

“I thank my teammates for the good game, in the second half we showed personality and we won the game despite some difficulties.”

Mkhitaryan struggled at the club at some point last year but now appears to be finding his feet with good performances of late.

“Last year, when I arrived, it was not easy for me to get into condition after some injuries.”

“I’m doing well now, I’m playing with consistency, I show the qualities I have and I thank my teammates because they help me.”

“We have qualities and good players. We can get to the level we want, we work well and we do a lot, we will do everything to get where we want”.

With the win, Roma find themselves up to the fourth place and only two points off Milan at the top of the Serie A standings.
