The Blues have travelled to Milan without two key players ahead of their next Champions League match.

Chelsea will play without N’Golo Kante and Hakim Ziyech against AC Milan, Graham Potter confirms.

Kante hasn’t played for the Blues since suffering an injury in their Premier League match against Tottenham on August 14. The Frenchman recently returned to Chelsea’s training, but it seems he’s been unable to regain full fitness.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of his side’s next Champions League match, Potter said: “N’Golo we’re just waiting on. He had a reaction in training. So we’re just waiting for the news of that. Hakim’s got a sore throat, so that’s why he didn’t travel.

“[The Kante situation is] not ideal, and it is disappointing for him and us. So we have to wait and see the extent of it and go from there.”

Potter also confirmed Ziyech would miss the game with an illness. The newly-appointed manager started a heavily-rotated lineup in Chelsea’s win over Wolves on Saturday, hoping the workload management works to his side’s benefit.

He added: “The fact we could rotate a few [against Wolves] has probably helped us in terms of availability for this game and, hopefully, a bit of freshness.

“We’re going to need that because it’s going to be a physically demanding game.”
