Milan are determined to keep their star striker at San Siro.
AC Milan have reportedly decided to make Rafael Leao the highest-paid player in Serie A in his new contract.
Chelsea emerged as Leao’s main suitor this summer, holding informal talks with the Italian side.
However, Milan are eager to tie the striker to a new contract, with his current deal expiring in 2024.
Speaking on Leao’s future, Milan director Daniele Massaro said on Monday: “We’re confident about reaching an agreement with Leao and extending his contract. We’ll try to find a solution to proceed with Rafa for a long time.”
According to 90min, Milan are ready to make Leao the highest-paid player in Serie A in his new contract.
Leao would earn more than the likes of Dusan Vlahovic, Adrien Rabiot and Paul Pogba in case he agrees to the new offer.
Paolo Maldini has echoed Massaro’s comments, revealing the club’s intention to sign a contract extension with Leao before the World Cup.
“We would like to do it before the World Cup,” Maldini said.
“Indeed, we wanted to do it a year and six months ago. Then there must be the conditions to do it. The idea is to do it before the World Cup break. We’ll see what happens.”
