The Rossoneri have signed a contract extension with one of their best players.

Rafael Leao has signed a new five-year contract at AC Milan despite interest from Chelsea.

The Portugal international has become a cornerstone of Milan’s attacking line in recent seasons. The 23-year-old’s performances attracted interest from a number of elite European clubs.

However, Milan have managed to tie him down to a new contract.

“AC Milan is pleased to announce that Rafael Alexandre da Conceicao Leao has renewed his contract with the Club until June 30 2028,” the club’s statement reads.

“Since joining in the summer of 2019, Rafa boasts 162 appearances, 41 goals and 29 assists for the Rossoneri, and was named Best Player in Serie A last season. AC Milan and Rafael continue their journey together.”

Leao has registered 13 goals and eight assists in his 34 appearances for Milan this season, helping the Rossoneri maintain their Champions League spot.

Chelsea were Leao’s main suitors during the previous transfer window. The Blues went to add Mykhailo Mudryk to their squad in the winter. But the Ukranian star is yet to find his best form at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues, however, might still bolster their attacking line, with the likes of Victor Osimhen and Dusan Vlahovic being on their target list.
