Ahead of an important game in the Champions League, the Arsenal boss has given updates on injured stars Gabriel Jesus and Martin Odegaard.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has ruled Gabriel Jesus out of the Champions League game against Sevilla on Wednesday and revealed that Martin Odegaard is a doubt.
Jesus, who scored and made an assist in the 2-1 win over Sevilla on October 24, hasn’t featured since that match. The striker limped off in the game with a hamstring injury. This has caused him to miss the club’s last three games.
Odegaard, who missed last Saturday’s 1-0 loss at Newcastle, is in a race against time to prove his fitness. The midfielder has been recovering from a hip injury.
“Gabi won’t be fit and Martin [is] uncertain,” Arteta said at a press conference on Tuesday.
“The rest, no news so far.”
Despite their injuries, Jesus and Odegaard have been called up by their national teams for the international break.
Jurrien Timber, Thomas Partey, and Emile Smith Rowe will also be absent for Arsenal in Wednesday’s fixture with Sevilla.
Timber has a long-term knee problem, while Smith Rowe suffered a knee injury in last week’s 1-0 EFL Cup defeat at West Ham. Partey sustained a thigh issue during a training session last month. It’s unclear when any of these three players may return yet.
